CO2 Laser Vagina Tightening
Lumsail uses a fractional CO2 or carbon dioxide laser that is delivered via a probe which is inserted 6 to 8cms into the vaginal canal.
The probe used to deliver the CO2 energy has a 360° rotation and is used with a single use, hygienic sleeve.
How does it work?
CO2 laser delivers energy approximately 0.5mm deep into the vaginal skin and creates tiny, white, ablated dots of damaged tissue on the mucosal tissue inside the vaginal canal. As with other fractional laser techniques used in aesthetics, the principle is that this stimulates the healing response in the non-ablated (non-damaged) tissue surrounding each micro-dot, and thus new collagen formation results and the thickness of the vaginal lining is improved.
The device has a history in gynaecological applications where CO2 lasers have been used by medical practitioners for several decades to remove genital warts and some cancers.

How does CO2 Vaginal Laser work?
The principle of fractional laser is to treat a proportion of the skin or mucosal surface area in columns of laser light.
Recent scientific literature shows that treatment with fractional CO2 laser can be used for the treatment of vaginal health related conditions and specifically that it significantly improves symptoms of VVA in post menopausal women.
Historirical data also shows that fractional CO2 lasers cause a thickening and restoration of the vaginal mucosa.
During the CO2 Laser procedure the probe delivers continuous wave of CO2 levels in a fractional pattern along the vaginal lining. Uniform delivery of the fractional pattern is achieved through a unique scanner designer to microbeams of 210um in a controlled and uniform manner. It also enables a quicker vaginal tissue healing.
What does each treatment involve?
The procedure is not painful so pain relief is not required.
The doctor will firstly perform an examination of the vagina using a speculum to exclude the presence of any concerns of abnormality apart from VVA, the extent of which will be assessed.
The co2 laser procedure is performed with the patient lying supine and as mentioned does not require pain relief or sedation.
During the treatment, the doctor will move the sterilized applicator along the vaginal wall in an outward motion, applying the laser in a 360 degree pattern covering the entire area. The whole procedure should take a few minutes.
You may experience a minor heat sensation during the treatment but it is very gentle and you should not feel uncomfortable.
What happens after treatment?
The co2 laser procedure is very safe and has very little risks. Immediately after the treatment you may feel a very mild heat sensation. This will not last longer than a few hours. There is a transient inflammatory reaction expected after the procedure such as sensation of heat, possible burning and minor bleeding. These symptoms are very mild and usually resolve within 24 hours and not last longer than 72 hours. Vaginal lubricating gel can be used for discomfort.
For a minimum of 5 days it is important to:
avoid heat exposure in the treated area (such as a hot shower or sauna)
refrain from sexual activity, as well as avoid use of tampons and douche
wear cotton underwear and loose fitting bottoms to allow the treated area to breathe as much as possible
When will I see results?
Typically 2-3 treatments are needed to see optimal results and achieve the desired outcome on the vaginal layer. We recommend three treatments, six weeks apart with annual maintenance treatments.
Laser technology has been used for several decades in skin care, and the CO2 laser is a very common procedure option in physician offices. CO2 Laser Technology
The CO2 laser creates infrared waves, which are then amplified through a series of mirrors and lenses to deliver a powerful energy beam to the surface of the skin. In the more traditional applications, the CO2 laser would fully burn off the top layer of skin in the entire treatment area, providing for a type of laser peel.
